INSPIRATION MONDAY
This week I felt inspired by very underexposed film photography. I especially love the huge amount of grain that comes with underexposing film. Sometimes this hard grainy look can be achieved by pushing film, meaning shooting film at a higher ISO than it says on the box but later developing it at the ISO you shot with (pushing). This underexposes the film while shooting but brings back some shadow in the developing process. However grain is often also added in post production by overlaying grain textures on scanned film photos in photoshop. Also the shadows and blacks might be pulled back up and the saturation down a little in post editing in photoshop to get that lower contrast, faded out look. While I’m still trying to figure this look out, I have collected some of my favorite shots from Photographers such as Henrik Purienne, Yexley and Sam Dameshek. Hope you’ll love this collection and it will inspire you just as much as it does me.
Cheers, Steven
